BAHAWALPUR, June 30: The syndicate of Islamia University approved deficit budget for the financial year 2007-08 on Saturday.

According to the budget document, the estimated income is Rs679.316 million while the expenditure Rs761.561 - a deficit of Rs82.243 million.

According to vice-chancellor Prof Dr Bilal A Khan, who presided over the meeting, the Higher Education Commission and the Punjab government would provide Rs344.322 million for the development projects while the university would generate Rs170.322 million from its own resources.

The syndicate, besides other matters, also discussed the issue of plagiarism, approved the purchase of new buses, construction of boys hostel at engineering college and NTS test for admissions and creation of new posts.

The meeting approved grant of Ph.D degrees to Zaheer Ahmad Babar, Abdul Majid Nadeem and Irshad Ahmad (Arabic), Muhammad Nazir Alvie (Urdu) and Mahmoodul Hasan (chemistry).
