Morgan to become ICC chief next year

LONDON, June 29: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman David Morgan will take over as president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) next year. Morgan is to replace acting president Ray Mali when the South African steps down in June 2008, the ICC announced on Friday.

Mali took the reins when fellow countryman Percy Sonn died last month with a year left in his term with world cricket's governing body.

An agreement was also reached to allow India's Sharad Pawar to follow Morgan as president between 2010 and 2012.

Morgan is expected to relinquish his role with the ECB in the next few weeks in keeping with ICC policy.—Reuters
