Wall collapse: case against contractor, others

MUZAFFARGARH, June 29: A case has been registered against the contractor, the building department SDO and a sub-engineer for using substandard material in construction of wall of Alipur Ghalwan Girls Primary School.

On May 2 last, four nursery students — Sumera Hasnain, Tabbasum Zahra, Arifa Bashir and Muneza Bashir — were killed when the wall of their school collapsed.

DCO Dr Akhtar Nazir Warraich said after receiving laboratory report of the material used in the wall, the case had been registered against contractor Amjad Abbas, sub-engineer Muhammad Saleem and SDO Malik Riaz Ahmed. The Supreme Court had taken suo motu action on the killing of the girls.

Meanwhile, the DCO has delivered cheques of Rs100,000 each among the heirs of the deceased. The cheques were given to the parents of the girls on behalf of Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi.
