KARACHI: Three more towns pass budgets

KARACHI, June 29: Shah Faisal, Keamari and Baldia towns passed budgets for the financial year 2007-08 in their respective council meetings on Friday. The Shah Faisal Town council passed a surplus budget with a total outlay of Rs404.006 million for fiscal 2007-08 in its meeting. The budget was presented by Town Nazim Mohammad Imran in the council meeting, which was presided over by Naib Town Nazim Ali Akbar.

According to the budget document, the total expenditures are estimated at Rs403.957 million against the receipts of Rs404.006 million showing a surplus of Rs49,000.

Briefing journalists about the budget, the town nazim said a sum of Rs221.228 million had been allocated for various development projects while an amount of Rs182.729 million had been earmarked for the non-development expenditures, including salaries of the staff.

He said that the town would spend Rs40 million on the construction of roads and footpaths. A sum of Rs10 million had been allocated in the next financial year for the construction and improvement of the storm-water drainage system. Besides, he said, the town would spend Rs10 million on the establishment of parks and playgrounds.

The town would get a managing grant in the head of Octroi Zila Tax of Rs 229.246 million while it would generate Rs50 million from property, betterment and conservancy tax.

Keamari Town

With a total outlay of Rs390 million, the town council of Keamari approved a balanced budget for the financial year 2007-08.

Town Nazim Humayun Khan presented the budget in a meeting chaired by Naib Town Nazim Amir Hamza.

According to the budget document, an amount of Rs244.379 million has been earmarked for development expenditures, Rs145.621 million for non-development expenditures, including Rs108.201 million in head of staff salaries.

The provincial government would give Rs370.019 million to the town in the head of Octroi Zila Tax while the town would generate revenue of Rs13.381 million from its own resources.

Baldia Town

Baldia passed the budget with a total outlay of Rs340 million in the town council meeting. The budget was presented by Baldia Town Nazim Kamran Akhtar.
