KARACHI, June 28: Owing to a weather system travelling in a north-westerly direction from the Bay of Bengal, Sindh and adjoining parts of Balochistan areas are expected to receive a second spell of heavy monsoon rains and winds in the next few of days, said the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Thursday.
The department’s director-general, Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry, confirmed that on Wednesday the low pressure area was marked over central/north Bay of Bengal and was converted into a strong monsoon weather system depression on Thursday. Once it was over central India, this would weaken into a low pressure area which would reach Sindh soon and would potentially cause rain and strong winds in Sindh and Balochistan.
Dr Chaudhry added that widespread rain and strong winds are also expected in the Punjab, Kashmir, the NWFP and the earthquake-affected areas within the next 48 hours. Scattered rain and windy weather is expected in the southern parts of Pakistan during the next 36 hours.
Meanwhile, various Karachi localities received traces of rain on Thursday. The minimum recorded temperature was 27.8 degrees centigrade while the maximum recorded was 32 degrees centigrade. The humidity remained constant at 85 per cent. The met office predicts cloudy weather with intermittent rain for Friday (today).
