KARACHI, June 27: Some constitutional amendments are likely to be ratified when the general council of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) meets in Lahore on Saturday with its president Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hassan in the chair.

This will be the first council meeting of the year and the second after Doha Asian Games debacle. The IOC has already approved the draft of amended POA constitution which once ratified after discussion, will come into force with immediate effect.

Getting formal approval of amended POA constitution from members is part of 12-point agenda for the meeting circulated to members.

Another important point to be deliberated in the meeting is model constitution of National Sports Federations. Officials in most federations have been defying the national sports policy and it is evident from the fact that the two-term condition of holding an office in a sports body at all levels has not been implemented in letter and spirit.

The POA also plans to launch Schools Olympics aimed at picking an athlete at the right age. The meeting will also review the 30th National Games held in the port city recently.

Preparations for the 11th South Asian Games in Bangladesh and second indoor games at Macau will also come up for discussion, besides chalking out of plans for Beijing Olympics (Torch Relay) in the country.

To consider and discuss Youth Development Programme, working of National Sports Federations, elections of Olympic Council of Asia, approval of minutes of last general council held on Dec 30 last year are also on the agenda at the meeting.
