LAHORE, June 26: The paid national junior cricket selection committee has suddenly woke up from its deep slumber, announcing it will observe the matches of the ongoing Under-19 Inter-district matches when three to four rounds have already been completed.
The chief junior selector Col Naushad Ali assigned duties to different members of the selection committee on Tuesday and he will not only watch the matches in his home town Islamabad and Rawalpindi but will also fly to Karachi and Quetta for witnessing the games.
While chief selector’s visit to Karachi can be deemed important as no member of the junior selection committee belongs to Karachi, his visit to Quetta is surprising as Aftab Baloch is already in Quetta for the matches.
Col Naushad, who is being paid Rs150,000 as monthly salary is also entitled to receive Rs1500 as daily allowance besides his business class air tickets during this period. The other members of the committee are getting Rs100,000 per month in salaries and are also entitled to get Rs1000 as daily allowance and business class air tickets.
More surprisingly, Test off-spinner Arshad Khan, who is yet to announce his retirement from international cricket, has been inducted in the selection committee and will also travel to Quetta to see matches besides performing similar duties in Peshawar and Abbottabad regions.
Azhar Khan and Mohsin Kamal, the two selectors from Lahore, will travel to Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan besides watching the matches in their home town. Aftab Baloch will be visiting Hyderabad, Karachi besides watching matches in Quetta.
A PCB spokesman said the process would help in finalizing the Regional Academy probables and identification of talent for the future.
