MARDAN, June 26: A fresh petition has been filed before the district and sessions’ judge here in a case involving the alleged detention of a man suspected of being involved in the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

Petitioner Israr Khan had alleged that his brother Mustafa Kamal was picked up by law-enforcement agencies’ personel from Katlang on June 19 and pleaded the court for his recovery.

The court, presided over by Syed Yahya Zahid Gillani, marked the petition to Additional District and Sessions’ Judge Mah Tallat for further proceedings.

Earlier, Mr Israr had filed a habeas corpus petition before the district and sessions judge but since the concerned Station House Officer had denied his arrest and the court’s bailiff could not trace him at the police station, it was rejected on Monday.

Mr Israr filed the fresh application on Tuesday and recorded his statement under section 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Judge Mah Tallat appointed judicial magistrate Ghulam Abbas as inquiry officer and directed him to submit a report on July 11. Lawyer Aziz-ur-Rehman Khan appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
