Justice figures nowhere in police terminology

By Our Correspondent

MUZAFFARGARH, June 26: In what appears to be a dastardly act by any stretch of imagination, a police officer has threatened a gang-rape victim and her parents that he will scare the hell out of them if they will not withdraw the case.

A resident of Mauza Jaisal Wain, the victim sobbed out that she was abducted by Ghulam Abbas and his three accomplices on Thursday last from her house. They took her to a deserted house and gang-raped her the whole night through, she said, claiming that she and her family approached the Saddar police station for registration of case the very next day but the police detained them for two hours and asked them not to come again.

According to the victim, they approached the DHQ hospital and got a medico-legal certificate. The medical report, she said, confirmed that she had been gang-raped.

As if this was not enough, she alleged, SHO Javed Gadi, as soon as he came to know about the medical report, dragged her at the police station telling her that he would hold an inquiry in the public and she would have to speak out her ordeal in the presence of hundreds of people.

She said when her family insisted on case registration, the SHO told them that he would register a case after three days. At this, the family approached PML women wing president Ume Kulsoom Sial who met the DPO and finally a case was registered against the nominated men.

The PML leader said the police had yet to make any arrest despite registration of the case, alleging that the SHO had taken bribe to hush up the case.

When contacted, SHO Gadi said he had arrested Imran, one of the suspects, while others would be arrested soon.

SECURITY: After finding bombs at three oil-tankers on Friday last in Qasba Gujrat, DPO Rai Muhammad Tahir has deployed 25 police officials at the Gujrat police post for round-the-clock security of Parco installations.

The district police recovered bombs planted in the tankers for oil transportation to Afghanistan. On a tip-off that bombs have been planted in oil-tankers making for the Pak-Arab Refinery Company installations near Qasba Gujrat, 20 kilometres from here, the police stopped the vehicles and found Russian-made bombs beneath their fuel tanks.

The DPO said the police would check every oil-tanker thoroughly and provide protection to the people of Qasba Gujrat.
