Member of banned group held

FAISALABAD, June 25: Factory Area police have arrested an activist of outlawed Laskhar-i-Tayyaba wanted for different crimes. Iqbal Town SP Ziaullah Niazi told newsmen on Monday that accused Babar Ishaq had links with a gang who attacked police officials in Peshawar a couple of months ago. He got training from Afghanistan and his brother, Sohail Ishaq, was also killed in a fight with coalition forces in the same area.

He said police had recovered a rocket launcher, hand grenades, a kalshinkov, bullets and pistols from his possession.

The SP said Ishaq was also involved in a kidnap for ransom case in which he got Rs5 million.

Talking to newsmen, the accused said he wanted to kill some top officers in the district.
