HYDERABAD, June 25: It continued to rain in many parts of Sindh on the third consecutive day on Monday, resulting in the death of a villager in Sanghar district and destruction of a number of huts in a village near Sakrand and in another village in Nawabshah.
The rain has heralded a pleasant change in weather and provided a respite to people from extreme heat but it seems the power utility is bent on spoiling the good weather by power breakdowns.
It began to rain in Hyderabad at around 1.15 pm. Power went off with the first drop of rain in several areas of the city. The business activities and work on under construction roads in the city were greatly hampered by the rain.
Hyderabad meteorological office at the airport recorded 18mm of rain with temperature at 32.5 degree Celsius. The office has forecast more rains during next 24 hours.
MIRPURKHAS: Intermittent rain continued, submerging the lying areas, main roads and streets of the district in knee-deep water, while power failures disrupted water supply.
Meanwhile, a villager, Mir Mohammad, was killed when wall of his house collapsed in rain in the Dil Shakh village near Kandiari of Sanghar district on Sunday night. He was fast asleep when the wall fell on him.
NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah, Sakrand, Daur, Bandhi, Jam Saheb, 60-Miles and their adjoining areas received rain on the third consecutive day dropping the temperature to 30 degrees Celsius.
Local met office recorded rainfall on Sunday and Monday at 17.5mm. The rain, meanwhile, destroyed more than six huts in Rawat Rind village near Sakrand on Sunday evening.
KHAIRPUR: Rain accompanied by windstorm hit the city on Sunday evening uprooting trees and snapping electricity wires on the Station road, blocking traffic and suspending power to the entire city.
The rain also caused the telephone lines to go dead after the PTCL’s underground manholes of cables were filled with water.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Rain in and around the district provided relief to growers in Naushahro Feroze, Kandiaro, Padidan, Phul, Bhirya, Mithiani, Lakha road, Bhirya road, Moro and their adjoining areas.
DADU: Heavy rain hit the city and its adjoining areas leading to suspension of power supply. It also rained in the mountainous areas bordering with Balochistan.
The rain raised the level of Nai Gaj Nala to 22 foot cutting off 120 villages of Kachho belt from the rest of the district. The villages include Chhinni, Bago Shahani, Tando Rahim Khan, Gaji Shah, Ahmed Khan Birhamani, Golo Faqir, Mohammad Hassan Rodnani, Razi Khan Rodnani, Afzal Shah, Sawro, Bahlil Shah, Qasim Rodnani, Shaiq Rodnani, Jam Babbar and Bahawal Babbar.
Nai Gaj flows into Manchhar Lake and helps raise the lake’s level. It was still raining heavily at the time of filing of this report. No casualty was reported from any part of the district despite reports collapse of many katcha houses.
BADIN: Rain with strong winds hit the city on Monday and continued intermittently for over three hours but there were no reports of any casualty or eventuality from any part of the district.
LARKANA: Rain lashed Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts and their adjoining areas leading to power hours-long failures.
District Coordination Officer Mohammad Naseer Jamali directed officers concerned to take precautionary measures in advance.
Local Hesco officials announced replacing power transformer of 10/13 MVA with 20/26 MVA at 132 KV gird station to overcome overloading problem on Tuesday, which he said would affect power supply at 12 electricity feeders.
It would affect Chandka Medical College (Teaching Hospital), Chandka Medical College (Children Hospital-medicine and surgery), Shaikh Zayed Women Hospital, central prison and around 50 villages, the official said.
