KARACHI, June 25: The Sindh High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Sindh Home Secretary, IG, SHO of Saudabad police station and others for July 2 on a petition filed against alleged harassment of a newly married girl and quashment of an FIR lodged against her husband.
Rozina, 18, resident of Mehar, Dadu, submitted before the SHC's division comprising Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed and Justice Qaiser Iqbal that she married Abdul Quayum of her own free will on May 24.
Her father, Allah Rakha, who wanted to marry her off with an old man in the village, allegedly made it a matter of ego and forced her to leave her husband otherwise, threatening her, they would be killed as Karo-kari.
She stated that on her refusal, Allah Rakha lodged an FIR against Abdul Qayyum in the Saudabad police station about her “abduction” and started harassing family members of the man through police, and threatening them of dire consequences.
Naming the Sindh government through the home secretary, IG, the SHO Saudabad police station, Investigation Officer Fida Hussain Baloch and Allah Rakha, she prayed the court to direct the relevant police officers and her father not to harass them and interfere in their life. She also sought a halt to threats the couple were receiving.
It was also prayed that the officials concerned be directed to quash the FIR lodged against her husband, as neither he had abducted her nor committed any unlawful act.
The division bench, after preliminary hearing, issued the notice and adjourned the matter for July 2.—PPI
