PESHAWAR, June 25: The City District Government Peshawar on Monday unveiled a Rs6.31 billion budget for the fiscal year 2007-08 with a total expenditure of Rs6.26 billion.

Presenting the budget, City District Nazim Ghulam Ali said that the outlay showed a surplus amount of more than Rs56 million.

According to the budget document, the district government would likely receive from the provincial government Rs20 million for mega projects.

The district will receive Rs2.29 billion on account of its share from the divisible pool in accordance with the Provincial Finance Commission Award.

Under the head of the District Local Fund, an estimated Rs360.39 million would be generated through various municipal resources and Rs104.27 million through district grants.

The earning of the City Development and Municipal Department has been estimated at Rs3.53 billion against the last fiscal year’s income Rs4.4 billion.

The revenue expected to be received from the Urban Property Tax is fixed at Rs13.2 million. Total non-development establishment charges have been estimated at Rs2.22 billion while the development expenditures have been estimated at Rs3.72 billion.

Giving the break-up of the development expenditures, Ghulam Ali said that Rs5.39 million had been allocated for the District Annual Development Programme, Rs1.82 million for Citizens Community Board schemes and Rs0.728 million for Civil Defence.

He said under the District Local Fund, Rs10.42 million had been set aside for development works, Rs9.45 million for the Grants Development, Rs10.42 million for the District Development Grants and Rs1.32 million for the Urban Immovable Property Tax and Sugar Cess.

Talking to newsmen, the nazim said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had granted Rs50 million for Peshawar.

He said that on the directives of President Gen Pervaiz Musharraf, 200 tube-well schemes had been approved, adding that talks would be held with the president for getting a financial package for Peshawar.

He said the federal government had allocated Rs3 billion for irrigation and drinking water project from the Warsak Dam, adding that the project would be completed soon.

The nazim said the city would soon have CNG buses and an electronic sweeping system. Mufti Mahmood flyover would be built from the Peshawar High Court to Charsadda Road with the cost of Rs260 million, he added.
