ISLAMABAD, June 24: Several prominent non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have proposed adoption of the National Database and Registration and Authority’s (Nadra’s) computerised national identity cards list having nearly 60 million people on it as electoral roll to immediately take care of eight million missing voters.

Speaking at a joint press conference, the representatives of Pattan Development Organisation (Poda), Sungi Development Organisation, Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO), Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and Rozan said Nadra and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) must jointly make arrangements to go door to door and issue identity cards to voters, who should then be automatically registered on electoral rolls.

Elected representatives, union councillors and CSOs should be mobilised to facilitate the ECP and Nadra in registering as many voters as possible before the announcement of election schedule.
