PPP leader blames bad governance for tragedy

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 24: Former prime minister and chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party Benazir Bhutto has expressed grief and shock over the death of over 200 people in Karachi due to rain and storm.

“On behalf of the PPP, I express deep grief and shock over the loss of over 200 innocent lives and untold misery caused to so many others,” she said in a statement on Sunday.

Ms Bhutto said the lives of the Karachiites had already been made miserable by the regime’s failure to address the recurring problem of power breakdowns because of corruption and bad-governance.

The former premier called upon the regime to take immediate steps to mitigate the suffering of the people and pay adequate compensation to the families of those who had lost their bread earners, to those injured and also to those who have suffered material losses.

Ms Bhutto also directed her party workers to assist the suffering people in their rehabilitation.
