KARACHI: Sindh PA secretary for free access to database

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 24: Secretary of the Sindh Assembly Hadi Bux Burirro has stressed the need for making amendments to the database rules in order to have a vast database accessible not only to legislators but also to the ordinary people.

Mr Burirro has prepared a report based on his study visit to Canada during which he witnessed the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and the Standing Committee on Justice Policy, besides having interaction with the members of the committee.

“They have a strong database with a huge collection of relevant information. The research wing and library play a vital role in providing the legislators and other individuals all the required information,” he observed, adding: “The library services are provided on a strictly confidential basis by non-partisan professionals with a vast cumulative experience in catering to the needs of legislators.”

Mr Burirro said that the Sindh Assembly observed the rules under which neither the secretary nor any other staff was authorised to provide information to anyone, including a sitting MPA, without a written permission from the speaker.

Referring to the separate office accommodation and staff for every legislator, he said although it was not possible to ensure this at the assembly building due to a lack of space, such a facility for a group in the house could at least be considered.

In his report, Mr Burirro has also suggested that students be given training of house business.
