ISLAMABAD, June 23: The Supreme Court on Saturday took suo motu notice on the alleged murder of a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, Kafila Siddiqui and summoned the Advocate-General Punjab and Inspector-General Police Islamabad on June 29.
Justice Javed Iqbal expressed grave concern over the grant of ad-interim bail to former minister of state Shahid Jamil Qureshi even though his driver Zulfiqar Awan and cook Allah Yar had been taken into custody.
Salman Qaiser, the husband of the deceased, had expressed apprehensions that investigations into the death might not be conducted in a transparent and fair manner.
He alleged that Mr Qureshi had kept his wife in illegal confinement and murdered her. The former minister has denied the charges.
Meanwhile, Mr Qureshi was admitted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) after he complained of severe chest pains.
A doctor at the police station had diagnosed the pain as an angina attack and had suggested shifting of the patient to a hospital immediately.
Mr Qureshi was brought to the emergency ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) at 2.37am, a source said.
After observing his condition for over an hour, doctors advised police to shift the patient to the AFIC.
A source informed Dawn that stents had been inserted in two of Mr Qurershi’s heart arteries while another remained blocked. Doctors described his condition as critical.
