Met office predicts heavy rains

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 22: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned fishermen to curtail their activities from June 24 to June 27 in view of the approaching monsoon weather system which will lead to extremely rough sea conditions. The department has also asked irrigation authorities to reduce canal discharges.

In a press release on Thursday, the department said that the conditions of deep depression, currently over India, would likely approach to the Sindh coastal area on Saturday. As a result, it said, widespread rains were expected across Sindh, particularly in southern Sindh and Karachi which would probably experience “very heavy rainfall”.

The press release further said that the weather would likely move towards the coastal areas of Balochistan.

Areas including Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara and Lasbela could expect heavy rains, while hilly areas in southern Balochistan had been warned of the danger of flash floods, said the press release, advising the fishermen in the areas against venturing out from June 25 to June 28.
