MPC may force govt to dissolve assemblies

By Ahmed Hassan

ISLAMABAD, June 22: Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, during an interaction with a group of PML parliamentarians on Friday, hinted at a possible dissolution of assemblies after the first week of July.

Talking to a group of women MNAs and Bilal Ijaz, parliamentary secretary for information, Chaudhry Shujaat said that the July 7-8 Multi-Party Conference in London could force the NWFP chief minister to dissolve the provincial assembly and if this happened, there would be no alternative but to immediately dissolve all assemblies.

A member of the group said that the MNAs had met Chaudhry Shujaat to stress the need for early completion of development schemes in their constituencies and release of funds before elections.

According to her, the PML chief also expressed his views on various issues and the possibility of early elections. She refused to give more details.

Earlier in the day, Chaudhry Shujaat denied a report attributed to him by a TV channel about early dissolution of assemblies and said that such ‘speculations’ had been in circulation for quite some time now. He said the assemblies would complete their tenure. The PML chief rejected reports about deep-rooted differences in the party on major policy issues.

Talking to a group of newsmen outside the parliament house, he also said that no cabinet reshuffle was under consideration.
