KARACHI, June 22: In a major reshuffle of the city police here on Friday, seven town police officers were transferred. It was the second shake-up after the transfer of DIG operations in the aftermath of the May 12 mayhem.
According to the orders issued by the office of the inspector-general of Sindh Police, TPO Gulshan SP Saquib Ismail Memon was transferred and posted as TPO Gulberg, TPO Gulberg SP Sharjeel Kharal to CPO as he was proceeding to a UN mission. TPO Baldia Town and the junior-most SP Noman Siddiqui was transferred and posted as TPO Gulshan.
SP Arif Hanif, who had served as TPO Shah Faisal, was posted as TPO Jamshed Town and TPO Jamshed SP Asif Aijaz was transferred and posted as TPO Gadap, believed to be the most lucrative posting.
TPO Gadap Sain Ditho Mirani was transferred to Sindh Reserve Police. Shafi Rind was transferred and posted as TPO Baldia Town.
“These transfers and postings are part of administrative changes,” CCPO Azhar Farooqui said.
However, sources said that the pace of transfers and postings of police officers, which had gained momentum soon after the retirement of former IGP Jehangir Mirza, slowed down after severe criticism from the media. The transfer orders of several TPOs, decided in the past, were implemented on Friday and more transfers were likely in the near future while the newly appointed Inspector-General of Sindh Ziaul Hasan Khan appeared helpless in making his presence felt, the sources said.
Earlier on May 28, DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah was transferred to CID and DIG CID Javed Bokhari was made DIG operations. On the same day, Javed Akbar Riaz was posted as TPO Malir and Lt (retd) Maqsood Ahmed as TPO Shah Faisal, replacing Altaf Leghari and Arif Hanif respectively.
