Euro all-time high

LONDON, June 22: The euro set another all-time high against the yen on Friday while the dollar surged to a four-and-a-half-year peak against the Japanese currency as dealers tallied up interest rate differentials.

Europe's single currency hit a record 166.67 yen in late trades, compared with 165.61 yen in New York late on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the dollar shot past 124 yen for the first time since December 2002, stretching as high as 124.03 yen. That compared with 123.70 yen on Thursday.

The euro climbed to 1.3440 dollars from 1.3387 a day earlier.

Sterling edged to within a whisker of the 2.0 dollar mark again, hitting a high of 1.9995 dollars before edging back.
