PCB chief, senator withdraw charges

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 21: The war of words between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf and Senator Enver Baig was amicably settled in a Senate Privilege Committee session on Thursday after both the officials expressed their regrets over the recent statements made against each other.

According to informed sources, the committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Tahir Mashahdi in Islamabad saw Senator Enver Baig withdrawing his recent allegations against Dr Ashraf where he had called the PCB chief a “dishonest and incompetent person.”

The PCB chief responded by expressing his regrets over dubbing Senator Baig as a ‘sick man’ in a recent statement and also assured the committee that he will withdraw the legal notice served on the senator last week.

Senator Baig later disclosed that the Senate Standing Committee on Sports has already summoned a requisitioned meeting on June 26 in which the PCB chairman will answer various questions relating to the financial and administrative affairs of the board.

The senator added that he had also asked the PCB to furnish the details of P J Mir’s package that was offered to him as the media manager of Pakistan cricket team during the World Cup.
