Pakistani sailors struggle on second day: Al Bareh Regatta

By Our Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, June 21: With the exception of Optimist sailing, it was not a good day for senior Pakistani sailors who failed to improve their positions in the Al Bareh International Regatta in Bahrain on Thursday.

Sailing in medium winds, promising Abdur Rehman showed some improvement when he jumped three places to finish overall seventh on the second day.

Rehman, who was lying 10th on Wednesday, could have finish even better had he not got disqualified in one of the races on the second day.

With five more races to go on the next two days, he still has a chance to attain a better position.

Mohammad Ashfaque who finished overall third in Laser Standard on the opening day could not maintain his position in the following three races and slipped to fifth slot. Opening day’s leader Sami Koheji of Bahrain was leading the fleet.

Ashraf of Pakistan Navy also failed to make any progress in Laser Radial. He is occupying 10th position which is similar to the other day. Abdel Rahim, meanwhile, has kept Bahrain’s domination intact.

Three races are to be sailed on Friday while the remaining two on Saturday being last day of the regatta.

It is worth mentioning that PAF’s Mohammad Yousuf won the gold in Laser Standard in the same regatta last year.
