KARACHI: Anger over delay in May 12 case probe

By A Reporter

KARACHI, June 21: The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) on Thursday expressed annoyance over the delay in investigating the issues raised by its FIR against the leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and officials of the Sindh government. Claiming that the investigation team had been dissolved, the association demanded the formation of a new probe committee under supervision of DIG Zone III.

Talking to Dawn, KBA general-secretary Naeem Qureshi said that “we have already conveyed our reservations to the chief secretary of Sindh, Shakeel Durrani, and demanded the constitution of another investigation team under the supervision of Deputy Inspector-General Zubair Mehmood.” He added that “the case is hanging in the air,” but Mr Durrani has responded positively to the lawyers’ demand.

When Dawn contacted the DIG, however, he denied the alleged dissolution of the investigation team and said that he had not been contacted by the lawyers, and neither had they so far complained against the investigation team. Mr Mehmood maintained that the team had visited the City Courts and the KBA office but the lawyers concerned had been busy and had not recorded their statements.

Asghar Usman, head of the investigation team, also stated that he was not aware of the dissolution of the team.
