Duty exemption

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 21: The exemption of duty and taxes on import of raw material for industrial units in the special industrial zones (SIZs) will expire in 2009.

An official announcement issued here by Central Board of Revenue (CBR) said all units established in the zones were exempted from duty, taxes on their imports of raw material through an SRO71 of 2005.

As a consequence of this policy, the CBR said M/s Siddiquesons put up their unit in a SIZ at Windher, Balochistan and accordingly enjoy exemption from customs duty and sales tax under the same notification on their import of raw material for a period of 10 years.

The unit imports tin free sheets as raw material and converts them into electrolytic tin plates. It came into production on June 18, 1999, and its exemption will expire in 2009.
