LAHORE, June 20: Taking notice of the allegations levelled by former Test captain and coach Javed Miandad against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports has asked the secretary of the standing committees to ask the PCB to submit copies of all the CVs received for the post of national coach.
In a letter addressed to the secretary committees, Standing Committee on Sports, Culture and Youth, Senator Enver Beg states: “I am attaching herewith a news report appearing in daily Dawn on June 20, 2007, in which serious allegations have been made by former captain and super star Javed Miandad and is a matter of great public concern.
“You are requested to direct the PCB to answer the queries stated in the news report at the requisitioned meeting on June 26 and in the meantime the PCB may be asked to submit copies of all the CVs received for the position of (national) coach.”
For the coach’s place, lying vacant since the death of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer, the PCB gave an advertisement on its website. The board had asked the interested candidates to file their applications by May 15. And a PCB technical committee, comprising Imtiaz Ahmed, Mudassar Nazar and Zakir Khan, will select the coach from among the applicants.
But as no one filed an application in response to the commercial, except a couple of recognised coaches, the PCB ignored bypassed its own policy to consider others who had not applied.
Miandad, who had previously criticised the PCB for giving the advertisement, lashed out at the board for sidestepping its own policy.
