PBSA plans event in Islamabad

KARACHI, June 19: Top 16 cueists of the country will be up against each other in a tournament which the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) plans to conduct at Islamabad next month.

“The event will formally mark the inauguration of a snooker complex built in the vicinity of Pakistan Sports Complex,” said a top official of the PBSA.

He disclosed four tables imported by the games controlling body in the past have been installed at the venue. The exact dates of the event are to be announced in due course of time, he added.

The PBSA president Asghar Valika said Nick Barrow, a former professional snooker player, has offered his services to groom Pakistan players in future.

“Nick, who is running School of Excellence in Bahrain, will soon send a package of arranging 15-day training for Pakistan players prior to any international commitments,” Valika told Dawn.

The foreigner who was here last week with the Bahrain team in connection with Asian snooker meet held negotiations with the PBSA chief on the related matters. He had coached UAE players in the past.

The PBSA official said if materialise, it will immensely help Pakistan players to raise their level and rectify their weaknesses.
