Education does not count much

By Mohammad Asghar

ISLAMABAD, June 19: Pakistan is governed by a graduate National Assembly but its capital lacks graduate police officers. Only five of the 12 station house officers (SHOs) in Islamabad are graduates, Dawn has learnt.

An official source said two others are under-graduate, three matriculate and two even did not finish their high school.

The source identified the graduate officers, Mohammad Ashraf, SHO Kohsar; Rukhsar Mehdi, SHO Secretariat; Munawar Ali, SHO Industrial Area; Khurshid Khan, SHO Sabzi Mandi; and Tahir Iqbal, SHO Golra police station.

While, Naeem Iqbal, SHO Margalla and Arshad Ali, SHO Shahzad Town left college before graduation.

Mohammad Akram, SHO Tarnol is under-matriculate, Raja Asghar Satti, SHO Sihala and Abdul Rashid Niazi, SHO Aabpara are matriculate, and Sub-Inspector Abdul Majeed, SHO Bhara Kahu is under-matric, while Ghulam Baqir SHO Shalimar left school before 10th class.

Meanwhile, several graduates and post-graduate police officers are spending days of frustration in the police lines waiting to get a lucky break.
