PESHAWAR, June 19: The Capital City Police Peshawar have claimed to have arrested 70 alleged criminals, including 10 proclaimed offenders, and recovered automatic weapons and fake currency from their possession.
An operation against anti-social elements has been initiated in the jurisdiction of police stations and is led by the respective SHOs in the districts to eliminate crimes, especially kidnapping. The Chief of Capital City Police, Abdul Majeed Marwat, is supervising the operation.
During the latest raids on the hideouts of criminals, the police arrested two proclaimed offenders each from the jurisdiction of Yakka Toot, Badabair, Bhana Mari and Pandu police stations and one each from the Faqirabad and Mathra police stations.
The police also seized two Kalashnikovs, four rifles, 16 pistols, 25 cartridges, 5kg of charas and Rs16,000 in fake currency.
Mr Marwat said that the operation against anti-social elements would continue till their total elimination, and added that police officials showing any lethargy in this regard would not be tolerated.
INSPECTION: The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammad Sharif Virk, has directed police jawans to be vigilant and to develop proactive policing to further improve the law and order situation in the province.
He expressed these views during a surprise visit to the Chamkani police station where he checked the record. He was briefed about the problems of the police and issued necessary instructions to the authorities concerned.
IGP Virk asked policemen to carry out extensive patrolling, show decent behaviour to the complainants and redress their genuine complaints at the earliest.
“More arms will be provided and police strength will be increased in police stations as well as steps will be taken to improve the working condition of policemen,” he added.
During his visit, the IGP went around various sections of the police station, reviewed available facilities and problems being faced by the staff. He also checked pending cases, records of cases and the history sheet of criminals and directed the officers concerned to complete the investigation of pending cases at the earliest.
He directed that case charge-sheets be submitted on a regular basis in the relevant courts without any delay.
IGP Virk also inspected the Malkana police station. After being appraised of the problems being faced by the staff, he issued necessary orders on the spot.—APP
