KARACHI, June 19: People from different walks of life gathered at the Fomma Centre in the Zamzama Park on Tuesday to listen to Sheherezade Alam, a renowned clay artist from Canada.
“Clay chose me so that the earth would dance in my hands. I learned through this process everything that is important to know in life — from nothing to something a pot evolves,” said Ms Alam at the programme titled Aik Dafa ka Zikr Hai organised by the Foundation of Museum of Modern Arts. A slide show was held in which the works of Ms Alam created during the last 15 years were highlighted and explained.
The artist said she captured the essence of colour in clay that made her very identity. To the disappointment of the enthusiasts, very few of her artworks were put on display at the event and upon queries the organisers told the people that it was an evening with the artist and not a formal exhibition.
The organisers also showed a 10-minute documentary on renowned artist Zahoorul Akhlaq produced by his daughter Noorjehan Akhlaq. — HM
