ISLAMABAD, Jun 18: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court here on Monday directed the Sindh police to recover the family of Munno Bheel in two weeks. The court will hear the case after a fortnight.
The bench, comprising Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Falak Sher, expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the police in the case.
The bench said it did not want to summon the Sindh IG and his deputy but would give the police last warning to recover the allegedly kidnapped family members of the peasant.
As Sindh Additional Advocate-General Khalid Mehmood informed the court that the police had arrested a person namely Lalo in the case, the court observed that the police claimed making arrests but there was no headway in recovery efforts.
Mirpurkhas District Police Officer Abdullah Shaikh informed the court that the main accused Abdur Rehman Mari had been arrested but another accused Azam Khaskheli had gone underground and search for him was under way.
Ikram Chaudhry, counsel of former DIG Sindh Salimullah, informed the court that he had filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court apprehending that his client, who had been released in one case, might be arrested in another. The bench told him to submit power of attorney in the case.—APP
