KARACHI: Muttahida forms body to review power crisis

KARACHI, June 18: Keeping in view the ongoing power crisis in the metropolis, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has formed a committee comprising federal and provincial legislators to prepare proposals to get rid of load-shedding once and for all.
The decision to form the nine-member committee was taken at a meeting of the MQM coordination committee and Haq Parast lawmakers at the party’s headquarters Nine Zero on Monday.
The committee members are MNAs Israrul Ebad, Iqbal Mohammad Ali, Abdul Waseem, Nisar Panwahar and MPAs Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Khalid bin Walayat, Abbas Jaffery, Idrees Siddiqui and Amir Moin Peerzada.
Besides monitoring government measures for maintaining uninterrupted power supply to the city, the committee would contact the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) for the implementation of its proposals for resolving the issue.
The meeting expressed concern over the continuing load-shedding in the city and faults in the power distribution system causing severe hardship to the citizens.
The participants felt that more steps should be taken to control the problem and industrialists should be encouraged to establish small power generation plants in the city.
