Protest against killing

KHAIRPUR, June 17: A man was shot dead by unidentified people near Pir-jo-Goth on Sunday.

Reports reaching here said that four men armed with Kalashnikovs shot dead Nisar Ahmed Solangi, a journalist, while he was going to Pir-jo-Goth from Wada Machhi.

The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem at the Pir-jo-Goth Rural Health Centre. Mr Solangi was buried in his family graveyard in Sono Solangi village.

Later, more than 200 members of Solangi community staged a demonstration in Wada Machhi to protest against the killing and blocked the road leading to Khairpur. They were demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

Local administration officers held talks with the protesters and assured them that they would strike to arrest the killers.

No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.

ASI INJURED: An ASI of the Police Recruitment Training Centre, Khairpur, was injured when a group of armed men trying to rob his motorcycle fired on him on Saturday night.

ASI Haut Ali Junejo was going to his house in Luqman on a motorcycle. When he reached Chandia More, the armed men intercepted him and tried to rob him of motorcycle. Junejo offered resistance and the robbers opened fire and injured him.

The injured ASI was taken to the Khairpur Civil Hospital from where he was referred to a Nawabshah hospital due to his serious condition.
