HYDERABAD, June 17: District nazim of Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that had the previous governments worked efficiently to provide basic amenities to the people, the present district government would have been in a position to upgrade various facilities.
He said that the district government had to start from zero point.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed asphalt road at Rishi Ghat on Saturday night.
Nazim city taluka, Javed Jabbar, officers of the district government and a large number of elected representatives of the people attended the inaugural ceremony.
He said, it was the bounden duty of previous governments to provide basic facilities to the people such as water supply, sewerage, roads, health and education but it was not done. Therefore, the present district government is obliged not only to carry out its own programmes but also to carry out the work of previous governments, he said
He, however, expressed his determination to convert Hyderabad into a model city.
He said that water supply and sewerage problems of the citizens were resolved by launching massive development works and added that it was for the first time in the history of Hyderabad that asphalt concrete roads were being constructed.
WASA: The district nazim directed the WASA officials to keep all the pumping stations operational and arrange additional pumping machinery and generators to meet the challenges of monsoon season which was round the corner.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting of WASA officials and other concerned departments which reviewed arrangements for the monsoon season.
Those who attended the meeting included, MD WASA Abdul Malik Khatri, XENs, project director HDP, Syed Sarfaraz Shah, deputy project director Kafeel Ahmed, technical officer, Faheem Akhtar Junejo, consultant Usmani and Company Asim Usmani, nazims of city and Latifabad talukas and others.
Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that keeping in view bitter experience of previous year, all precautionary measures had been taken but cautioned that there was no margin for complacency.
Later, the nazim inspected different pumping stations.
