KARACHI: Census next year


KARACHI, June 17: The chief Census Commissioner, Karam Ellahi, has said that census in the country would be held in 2008.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a workshop on 'Population census and gender equality' on Saturday evening.

Highlighting the significance of census, he said that the availability of data relating to the population of a country was imperative for planning, good governance and an effective administration.

Mr Ellahi said that census provided basic data relating to geographic, social and economic information of the people living in any country.—PPI
