KARACHI: Over Rs207m allocated for jails dept

KARACHI, June 17: The Sindh government has allocated Rs207 million for the new and ongoing schemes of the jails department under the Public Sector Development Programme in the next financial year (2007-08).

For the current financial year, Rs35 million have been allocated for new schemes and Rs174 million for the ongoing schemes.

The unapproved schemes include construction of District Jail Hub Raod Karachi, construction of Borstal Institute at Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas, repair and renovation of barracks, hospital kitchen block and construction of new shed bathroom in each branch at the Central Prison-1 Sukkur.

Rs4.148 million and Rs0.033 million have been allocated for the construction of condemned cells at the Central Prison Karachi and Central Prison Hyderabad respectively.

For the conversion of TB Jail into Training Institute Hyderabad and its improvement, an amount to the tune of Rs3.152 million, has been earmarked in the current fiscal.

During the current fiscal, Rs0.761 million will be utilised for the construction of Juvenile Jail Central Prison Hyderabad, Rs20 million for the construction of district jail and residential facilities at Ghotki and

Rs80 million for the construction of district jail at Mirpurkhas having a capacity of 500 prisoners.

In the current budget, Rs10.820 million has been allocated for the construction of four additional barracks at the Central Prison Larkana and Rs10 million for the construction of four barracks at District Jail Malir.
