PESHAWAR: Wife’s killer sentenced to life imprisonment
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR, June 16: An anti-terrorism court here on Saturday convicted a man of killing his wife and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Ume Salma was killed and her brother was injured when the accused Kamran fired on them at the Judicial Complex on Oct 7 last year. They were attending a hearing in an application filed by Ms Salma for the recovery of her haq-i-mehr (dower) after their separation.
Judge Shahjee Rehman Khan observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused and he was caught red-handed from the place of occurrence.
Although a compromise has been reached between legal heirs of the woman and the accused, the court ruled that as he was also charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act, therefore, he could not be pardoned.
He was charged in an FIR registered at the East Cant police station under sections 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Ms Salma alleged in the application that her husband and in-laws had threatened to kill her. She said that she could not live with her husband because of continuous domestic violence.
