HYDERABAD, June 15: Hyderabad will be the second city in whole of Pakistan after Islamabad where filtered water will be provided to entire city population.

This was said by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil at the inaugural ceremony of 20 inch diameter water pipeline and two new turbines at Paretabad water works on Thursday.

The two plants under construction will be completed in July and August this year and will supply filtered water to 90 per cent population while third to be installed in Latifabad will bring it to 100 per cent, he said.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said the work on three projects pf Paretabad was proceeding at the fast pace with the cost of Rs440 million.

However, one was completed today which includes the installation of two turbines and a 20 inch diameter water pipeline from the water works to Fateh chowk increasing supply to 8MGD from 4MGD to residents of Hali Road, American Quarters, Murshidabad, Site area, Zeal Pak Colony, Gulshan Khair and adjoining areas, Nazim said.

The second project will increase storage capacity of lagoon from 21 million gallons to 102 million gallons he said and added that to meet water shortage in Hyderabad, a filter plant with a capacity of 8MGD was under construction at Hala Naka which will be completed by next month.

About Qasimabad, he said, the capacity of old filter plant lagoon had been increased to 100 million gallons while the capacity of new filter plant was also being enhanced.

Project director Hyderabad Development Package (HDP), Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah; deputy project director, Kafeel Ahmed; MD WASA Mishraz Ahmed Siddiqui; Chief Resident Engineer of the consultant Usmani and Company, Niaz Ali Shar and other concerned officers of the district government were present on the occasion.
