‘Security in Kashmir improved’

SRINAGAR, June 14: A senior Indian official said on Thursday that the security situation in Kashmir was improving, but warned that New Delhi would not be complacent over the threat from Kashmiri militants.

The situation in occupied Kashmir “is definitely moving towards improvement. We all should be optimistic,” India’s federal home secretary, Madhukar Gupta, told a news conference in Srinagar.

“But in any situation we have to be careful, watchful,” said Gupta.

Gupta was here on a two-day visit to review security in the scenic Himalayan region, which is in the grip of an 18-year rebellion against the Indian rule.—AFP
