By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 13: A student activist was killed by unknown persons in Malir on late Tuesday night. Police said Syed Wasif Aziz, 26, president of the United Student Front and a member of the central executive committee of the Jamaat-i-Islami, was returning home to the DHA after attending a ceremony in connection with the death of Imam Khumaini in Jafar-i-Tayyar Society.

Police said Aziz was intercepted by some suspects riding a motorcycle near Malir 15. They pumped four bullets into Aziz before fleeing away. A police mobile arrived at the spot and took the wounded student leader to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the number of assailants could not be ascertained and only their presence on motorcycles could be confirmed.

At the time of the incident, the area was facing load-shedding.

Later, his body was sent to the Jinnah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The victim was a resident of Defence Gardens in the DHA. His funeral prayer was offered at Masjid-i-Tooba in Defence after Zuhar prayers on Wednesday.

Later, he was buried in the Defence graveyard in Phase-4. Many students and other political leaders attended the funeral.

The autopsy report unveiled that the victim had received two bullets in the chest and two in the head.

The victim was a final-year student of a local college. He was heading the student alliance, Muttahida Student Mahaz. All major student organisations, including the IJT, Punjabi Student Federation, People’s Student Federation, Muslim Student Federation, Anjuman Talaba-i-Islam, and Islamia Students Organization are its members.
