MIRPURKHAS, June 12: About hundred villagers protested outside the Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills for anti-labour policies in recruitment process. They condemned the administration of sugar mills and Unikool Plant for ignoring locals in employment.
Protesters carrying banners and placards and led by Jumo Panhwar and Ali Asghar Lund raised slogans against the administration.
Jumo Panhwar, Ali Asghar Lund, Asghar Narejo and Choudhry Mohammad Ashraf alleged that the Unikool plant inside the premises of sugar mills would increase pollution in the area.
They said owners had saved Rs60 million by not installing treatment plant while bad smell was causing problem for the people.
They said effluent will damage land and pose risk for area people.
They said the mill management wanted to sack labourers of other communities. They further said people from other areas were being recruited in sugar mills and Unikool plant which was injustice with the locals.
They demanded of the President General Pervez Musharraf, prime minister, and Sindh chief minister to take immediate notice and ensure installation of treatment plant and recruitment of locals in the mill and Unikool plant.
Meanwhile, zila naib nazim Mirpurkhas Zafar Ahmed Kamali reached there and assured his support.
Protesters reopened the Mirpurkhas Umerkot road after an hour.
BODY EXHUMED: Body of Farzana alias Arzana Lodho was exhumed from the graveyard in Peray Wala Jawan in Deh 105, taluka Hussain Bux Mari in the presence of first Judicial magistrate and civil Judge Mirpurkhas Mohammad Aslam Shaikh for post mortem on Tuesday.
Farzana 20 was strangulated by her uncle and elder brother on May 25 on pretext of karo-kari who buried her without proper funeral.
The body was exhumed from grave in the presence of medical board headed by Dr Moula Bux, additional medical superintendent LMUH Hyderabad, members Dr Anwar Hussain, additional police surgeon, Dr Akbar Qazi, assistant professor, Dr Naseer Ahmed, assistant professor pathology and lady doctor Kishwar Sultan of Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.
Accused Shafi Mohammad Lodho and Mukhtiar Lodho, elder brother and uncle of the deceased were brought by Old Mirpur investigation police who identified the grave of Farzana. Father of deceased, Khuda Bux Lodho alias Miano identified the body. Medical board conducted post mortem and got samples for laboratory examination.
The DPO Mirpurkhas Abdullah Shaikh, civil surgeon Mirpurkhas Dr Roshan Ali Bhatti, journalists and villagers were also present. Strict security arrangements were made in the surrounding area of graveyard.
ATTACK: Landlord Kishore Kumar resident of Kunri town has alleged that he was attacked with axes by three armed men on April 8 at his agriculture lands in Deh Shakh Darelo, taluka Kunri and sustained serious head injuries.
He said that he identified attackers as Ghaman Chandio, Dodo Chandio and an unknown person.
He added that he was robbed of cash Rs11,500 and mobile cell phone. On his hue and cry villagers reached the spot but the attackers escaped.
He said that he was provided medical treatment at taluka Kunri hospital while SHO Kunri police station Nazar Mohammad Lund refused to lodge an FIR and only registered non cognizable report. He said he was receiving threats of dire consequences by influential accused who were roaming in the area without fear.
He regretted that despite clear directives from higher authorities to lodge his FIR, SHO Kunri police was not registering the FIR of this incident. He demanded of the Sindh chief minister and PPO to take immediate notice into the matter, ensure registration of FIR and provide him justice.
