GUJRANWALA, June 12: Over a dozen accused involved in a quarrel case had to face court proceedings for nine years to get justice when a civil court acquitted them on Tuesday.

Sakhi Husain, Yaqoob, Ali Raza, Bashir, Munir and accomplices were booked by Kamoki Sadar police for beating the children of Noor Din on April 29, 1998. Accused party’s Muhammad Mansha also got registered a case against Noor Din and his men — Mahmood, Abdul Jabbar, Maqsood, Nazir, Hanif, Sader Din and Khushi Muhammad — on the same charges.

Police completed the charge-sheet against the accused and sent it to a civil court. The court recorded the statement of a witness in 2000, while he was quizzed in 2002. The court recorded the statement of investigation officer sub-inspector Tariq in 2006.

Two of the accused Bashir and Khushi Muhammad died and eight judges transferred or promoted during the proceeding of the case.

On Tuesday, Judge Aslam Bhatti, taking oath from the accused, acquitted them with an advice to avoid a quarrel in future.

Gastroentertitis: Gastro claimed the lives of an elderly woman and a child here on Tuesday.

Khurshid Bibi, 65, of Fatumand and Muhammad Ali of Asad Colony were admitted to the local DHQ Hospital on Monday night where they died on Tuesday morning.

Doctors said more than half a dozen gastro patients, including women and children, were brought to the hospital in serious condition.

They advised people to drink boiled water and avoid stale food.
