Associations, departments invited at PCB moot

LAHORE, June 11: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has invited around 55 representatives of the regional, district cricket associations and departments to a meeting in Bhurban next week, concerning the game’s domestic structure.

Sources told Dawn the PCB had booked many rooms of a five-star hotel, a costly exercise as all the representatives would remain in Bhurban for two days at PCB’s expense, during the June 16-19 meetings, among which is the meeting regarding the game’s domestic structure.

The 2007-08 domestic season is about to start in July with the under-19 competition however, the PCB is yet to decide the season’s structure.

The representatives will make their recommendations as to how to run departmental cricket along with regional in future, in the backdrop of the controversial role of the departments in domestic cricket with various Pakistan Test cricketers having varied opinions about it.

Meanwhile, the activities in Bhurban will start from June 16, with the PCB ad hoc committee meeting. The committee is to approve the central contracts for 30 international and national cricketers.

After holding the representatives of departments, district associations and regions, the PCB will host the first meeting of the organising committee of the 2011 World Cup on June 18, 19.
