LAHORE, June 11: Four members of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports have requisitioned a meeting under the Rule 163 (4) and asked for the personal appearance of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf to appear with specific details on certain issues.
According to the rules of business the meeting must be held within 14 days after the submission of the requisition.
According to a copy of the requisition obtained by Dawn the four senators, who have summoned the meeting are A Rahim Khan, Col S Tahir Hussain, Enver Baig and Dr Kausar Firdous.
“We, the members of Senate Standing Committee on Culture, Sports and Tourism hereby requisition its meeting under the Rule 163 (4) of the Rules of the Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate 1988 to discuss the following agenda:
1. To seek explanation from the chairman ad hoc committee, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the non-implementation of PCB constitution despite his firm commitment to the standing committee that the constitution would be enforced by Jan 31, 2007.
2. Please submit:
a) List of employees terminated since Aug 2006 to date and the reason of termination.
b) New appointments made since Aug 2006 to date.
c) List of all the PCB employees — permanent and contractual — as on May 31, 2007. Please indicate salary, car (c.c), house allowance and any other perks allowed separately.
3. Please submit CV of the new selection committee with the following details:
a) Criteria of appointing the selection committee.
b) Salary and other perks, if any.
c) Period of the selection committee.
4. Please provide Pakistan’s ranking in Test matches and ODIs year wise from Jan 2000 to May 2007.
5. Please submit copies of all the contracts extended to Test cricketers, playing Tests and ODIs as on May 31, 2007.
6. Please submit all the expenses incurred by the PCB — from Jan 2004 to May 2007 — for the improvement/renovation of cricket stadiums in the country. (Kindly detail the expenditures stadium wise),” the requisition concluded.
The meeting, which should be held by June 23, is very significant keeping in view the fact that the PCB chief had announced the board would file a legal case against one of the signatories of the requisition — Enver Baig —for using derogatory remarks against him. Dr Nasim has described Senator Baig as a person with a ‘sick mind’.
The meeting is also important as the PCB has sacked 11 top executives this year, later employing a good number of executives on lucrative packages. There are strong indications the board intend to appoint five more directors, including a director for security.
