Schoolgirls’ heirs receive part compensation payment: Wall collapse

MUZAFFARGARH, June 11: The heirs of four nursery class girls who died in a wall collapse incident at Alipur Ghalwan School received compensation of Rs25,000 each from the district coordination officer.

The DCO also assured them that Rs100,000 compensation amount announced by the Punjab chief minister for each of the family would also be given to them soon.

DCO Dr Akhtar Nazir Warriach, along with NLC Zonal Chief Colonel ® Najum Saqib and Maj Khalid, visited Alipur and gave cheques of Rs25,000 each to the heirs of Sumaira Hassnain, Tabasum Zahra and sisters Arifa Bashir and Munneza Bashir.

The girls had died when a wall of their school collasped on May 2. Following the incident, the DCO and chief minister had announced compensation for each family.

The aid announced by the chief minister could not be delivered to the affected families even after passage of one month.

On the occasion, the DCO and NLC zonal chief inspected the newly-constructed wall of the school and inaugurated three new buildings there.

SUSPENDED: Local cable operators kept the transmission of all TV channels suspended for more than four hours here on Monday.

Reports said at the time of the suspension of the cable service, most of the subscribers were eagerly awaiting the Supreme Court verdict on the petition of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. On contacting the cable operators, the anguished subscribers were told that there was some technical fault which caused suspension of the service.

The subscribers, protesting over the suspension of the cable service, demanded the district government should take note of the situation.

NIP: Under the National Internship Programme (NIP) up to 78 male and female postgraduate candidates have started working in different departments in the district.

Out of the total candidates, 38 are females.

According to figures provided by the district government, 14 candidtes are working with community development department, three with Finnance department, four with Law department, four with IT, five with Agriculture department, five with Health, four with Revenue, three with Works and Services, two with Literacy department and 14 with Education department.

Under the scheme, the candidates will work with the departments for one year. They will get Rs10,000 monthly stipend.

BUDGET: The national budget for the next fiscal reflects the aspirations of the masses, says Makhdoom Muzaffar Hussain Bukhari, a member of the Public Safety Commission.
