JACOBABAD, June 11: Sunstroke took four more lives in Jacobabad and other parts of upper Sindh as mercury touched 51 degrees centigrade on Monday. Many fainted due to intense heat wave prevalent in the area for last four days. In June last, maximum recorded temperature was 52 degrees centigrade.
The deceased included Khan Mohammad Machhi 55, resident of Gulab Machhi village; Walidad 45, at the Mouladad police station; Ms Zakia 70, resident of Phool Bagh Jacobabad. A large number of people were unable to bear the scorching heat and fell unconscious.
Hot weather affected the routine life while bazaars and roads wore deserted look.
Around 50 cases of gastroenteritis were reported in different hospitals.
Load-shedding for one hour continued in many areas of city.
KHAIRPUR: Mohammad Urs, resident of Pir Jo Goth, died on Monday due to sunstroke. He was a daily wage earner.
Power failure continued in the city and district on Monday due to which 30 mohallas of Khairpur city remained without power for three hours, causing hardships to citizens.Two transformers of Abid colony Khairpur, which went out of order on Sunday, could not be replaced on second day whereas more transformers in Khairpur city, Therhi and some other parts of the district went out of order during last 24 hours.
NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah district remained in the grip of heat wave as the maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 50 degrees centigrade.
Nawabshah and surroundings areas including Qazi Ahmed, Sakrand, Daur Bandhi and Doulatpur experienced power crisis due to continuous load-shedding.
Power supply remained suspended due to failure of main supply from Dadu between 2-5pm. Worst were the areas of Gharibabad, Manuabad, Mohini Bazar, Essarpura, Taj colony, Bhangwar colony, Mehran colony, Masjid road, Hospital road and other places.
