KARACHI: University Road to open for traffic next month

KARACHI, June 11: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the construction of University Road will be completed at a cost of Rs320 million ahead of its scheduled time as the construction work is being carried out round-the-clock.

From New Town to Hasan Square, the road would be opened for traffic in the first week of July while the track from New Town to Jail Chowrangi would be opened by the mid of July, he said while talking to newsmen on Monday.

Mr Kamal said this road was constructed 30 years back and despite its repair off and on, many of its portions suffered damages and cracks.

“It is now being constructed as Karachi’s most beautiful signal-free road having two modern U-turns for smooth flow of traffic,” he said.

A modern U-turn will be established between Faizan-i-Madina and New Town facilitating traffic flow from Jail Chowrangi towards Stadium Road. Another U-turn will be developed near Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town office.

He said the road was scheduled to complete in four to six months but the project was now being completed in two months.

He directed the KWSB officials to carry out detailed inspection of water and sewerage lines under the road from Jail Chowrangi to Hasan Square once more as any further digging after the road construction would not be allowed.—APP
