TAXILA, June 10: Four-day centenary celebrations of legendary British teacher Hugh Catchpole, who has the rare distinction of heading military colleges both in India and Pakistan and being the founder of Cadet College Hassanabdal, start from Monday (June 11).
The celebrations have been organised to honour Mr Catchpole (1907-1997), the last British principal of the college who was among the two British masters who stayed back after independence and went on to set up and head Cadet College in Hassanabdal on the lines of Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehra Dun.
A large number of Catchpolians, old students of Mr Catchpole, would attend the celebrations. Among them would be Rimcollians, cadets of Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehra Dun, who will arrive on Sunday; Sargodhians (students of PAF College, Sargodha); Abbottabadians (students of Abbottabad Public School and College) and Abdalians (cadets of Cadet College, Hassanabdal). Inter-institution games, debates and other competitions would be organised during the four-day activities.
According to the schedule, the opening ceremony will be held on June 11, which will be followed by a hockey match between the host Cadet College, Hassanabdal and Rashtriya Indian Military College.
On June 12, a hockey match would be held between Cadet College, Hassanabdal and PAF College, Sargodha while inter- college quiz competition would also be organised on the same day.
On June 13, a hockey match between PAF College, Sargodha and Abbottabad Public School and College would be played followed by a friendly football match between PAF College, Sargodha and Cadet College, Hassanabdal. Semi-finals of the hockey matches would be held on the same day which will be followed by a cultural show.
The final match of the hockey tournament will be held on June 14 and will be followed by the closing ceremony.
Similar celebrations were held on the birth anniversary of Mr Catchpole (May 26) on the other side of the border at Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) at Dehra Dun, the institution where Mr Catchpole started his career in the subcontinent.
