KARACHI: MQM, CM rigged voters’ list: Khuhro

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 10: Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro of the Pakistan People’s Party has urged the Election Commission to ensure inclusion of about 4.6 million eligible voters in the rural areas of the province in the electoral list.

In a statement, Mr Khuhro accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of hatching a conspiracy in connivance with Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro to keep these eligible voters unregistered by provoking teachers to launch a protest movement and boycott the enumeration process.

He observed that the timings for imposing a ban on teachers’ union was chosen under the calculated plan to achieve the objective of disrupting the enumeration process. On the other hand, he added, registration of voters in the urban areas of Sindh remained unaffected by the teachers’ protest as the job had been undertaken by MQM workers.

Mr Khuhro questioned the credibility of the electoral lists, and urged the Election Commission to ensure adequate publicity of the electoral lists through advertisements in electronic and print media so that all eligible voters could be able to ensure presence of their names in their respective voter list, to be displayed at the specified centres.

He also demanded that the process of the inclusion of missing names into the lists be simplified and the time for getting the lists corrected be extended.
