LAHORE, June 9: The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have decided to hold once a week races on Sundays only instead of twice a week.
A notification issued by the LRC said that from now onward Wednesday's midweek races, will no longer be held till further orders.
Only two weeks back, the Turf Accountants, had appealed to the LRC stewards to suspend midweek races in view of the decreasing number of entries, which had made races unattractive and without any competition because of the short number of horses taking part in events.
The request was turned down. Subsequently, they suffered heavy losses and some made exit from the ring on various excuses.
In order to attract more entries for Sunday's races, the LRC has announced a big incentive to owners and trainers. They have been informed that from June 10 to Sept 1, "Free handicap races" will be held, thereby horses penalized in handicap for being placed first, second and third in races, from June 10 to Sept 1, will be brought down in handicap at June 9 figure position, to take part in races after Sept 1.
It has further been clarified that the horses not figuring on board during the same period will continue drawing allowance on each run in the handicap according to entitlement as usual.—AG
